During the road trip with my sister through the north of Spain, we stopped in San Sebastian (Basque: Donostia) for a couple of days and It was just impossible to lay eyes on the stunning Basque Country city and not fall madly in love with it.
I have some sort of obsession with travelling and I have a top ten list of places that give me the feeling of …”I could definitely live here’ and San Sebastian made to the list in less than a day.
The reason? Well, someone once said; “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well” and let’s just say that I slept like a baby and my sister got way too many hugs from me during our time in the European Capital of Culture. (she couldn’t handle how loving I was).
Is San Sebastian the world’s greatest city for food?
If your emotional eating behaviour is not 100% under control, prepare to gain some extra kilos in no time.
I have to say that these were probably the most enjoyable extra kilos I have gained in my entire life. The city of indulgence seems to be having Michelin stars falling from the heavens onto its restaurants.
Every single thing I ate felt like paradise and here is my recommendation of places you can’t miss if you go to the land of amazing waves and great food.
Probably the best experimental pintxos I have ever eaten.
La Cuchara de San Telmo
Pintxos and Txakoli (is the region’s white wine) are the perfect combination.
Bar ZerukoIf you feel like having some drinks after dinner go to….
Atari where the perfect boyfriend cost you €2.50 (El novio perfecto). If you feel like giving the eating part a rest you should have a walk around commercial and shopping district and the lively Parte Vieja (old town). The port…..…. the surfing beaches: La concha and Zurriola. Where to stay…
Pensión Altair, it is just five minutes away walking distance from Zurriola beach. The place is so cute, modern and it feels like you have your own little apartment in the middle of this amazing city.
